Founder & CEO, 1-800-Tshirts

Background
Tom Rauen started 1-800-Tshirts in his parents’ basement after graduating from the University of Dubuque and spent more than 20 years building it into an Inc. 5000 custom apparel company, completing eight acquisitions along the way and earning a reputation as one of the most creative and operationally sharp operators in the industry. He holds the Guinness World Record for most T-shirts worn at once, a marketing stunt that captures his genuine love for the craft. Beyond apparel, Tom co-founded Dimensional Brewing Company, launched Driftless Brand outdoor apparel focused on trail running and conservation, built a commercial real estate portfolio in net lease properties, and runs a weekly newsletter called Fast Food Landlord. He serves on the boards of multiple Dubuque community organizations and co-founded the Rauen Family Foundation with his wife Amanda.
Why American Operator
Tom partnered with American Operator because the operate-to-own model reflects something he has believed in for his entire career — stepping into a small business and building it into something real is meaningful. Tom brings 20 years of acquisition experience, deep knowledge of the custom apparel supply chain, and the instinct of someone who has built and grown across multiple businesses and industries. His ability to quickly evaluate a deal's operational assumptions, spot pricing and margin opportunities that others overlook, and connect operators to the right resources makes him a valuable advisor in the network.
